This Sunday (21st August at 3.30pm) sees possibly the most anticipated meeting of the National League season for reasons that have been well documented. The old rivalries between Mildenhall and Cradley ‘Motor Market’ Heathens will be relit as the ‘KJM/Manchetts’ Fen Tigers management welcome in their opponents for what will hopefully be a closely contested meeting played out in a good spirit in front of a good crowd.
Recent seasons have seen some highly charged meetings between the two sides with plenty of exciting racing and Sunday looks set to carry on in that vein. Cradley have possibly the strongest top two in the National League with Max Clegg and Ashley Morris, but this partnership will be split-up on Sunday as Morris is required in the Premier League with Peterborough. In his place Cradley have turned to an ex-rider enjoying an excellent season with the Kings Lynn Young Stars, Nathan Greaves! For most of the season it has been the two heat leaders plus Luke Chessell who have provided the fireworks for Cradley as the lower end have struggled somewhat, not helped by the injury to ex-Fen Tiger James Purchase (whom the Heathens will operate rider replacement for). They will be hoping for stronger support from the Richard & Bradley Andrews plus Ben Basford to bank some all important lower end points on Sunday.
The ‘KJM/Manchetts’ Fen Tigers welcome back teenage star Jordan Jenkins to their exciting local based reserve pairing with his partner Sam Bebee and will continue to operate rider replacement for Kyle Hughes. With Danny Halsey in the form of his life ably supported by ex-Heathen Jon Armstrong and inform Connor Coles everything is set for a special afternoon of National League speedway.
Speedway fans are reminded that entry to Sundays meeting is £10.00 across the board for adults, concessions (60+) and students, Juniors (15 and under) free and free car parking. Paying customers also get a free £2.00 programme plus for the programme collectors there will be the opportunity to purchase the programme for the meeting that never took place on June 19th for just £1.00 per copy.
Customers will be treated to 21 heats of speedway for their ‘tenner’ as following the TPNL fixture there will be a Midland League Development match between the ‘Stonefield Farm Shop’ Fen Tiger Cubs and the City Gearboxes Coventry Vikings!
Sunday will also see the annual collection for the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund during the afternoon.
Club Chairman Kevin Jolly is looking forward to the meeting, he said “Much has been said and written but we have moved on now and I look forward to welcoming the Cradley riders, management and supporters to Mildenhall on Sunday for what should be a fantastic afternoon of speedway. I feel that both sides are pretty evenly matched and a close match is definitely on the cards. We have been on an upward curve these last few weeks with Danny Halsey in sensational form and our young reserves Sam (Bebee) and Jordan (Jenkins) showing so much potential that I am confident that this is a meeting we can win. Hopefully the terraces will be full, the banter lively but friendly and the meeting is played out in the right spirit that will represent everything that is good about National League speedway. I can’t think of anywhere better to be this Sunday that’s for sure!”
