The ‘KJM/Manchetts’ Fen Tigers charge towards the play offs is effectively over after the wheels came off at West Row against title challenging Eastbourne this afternoon.
Already weakened by Rider Replacement and the absence of reserves Jordan Jenkins and the injured Sam Bebee, the loss of No 1 Danny Halsey following his third crash of the afternoon left the home side chasing shadows in the second half of the meeting as the Eagles piled on the misery providing eleven of the afternoon fifteen heat winners.
A flawless fifteen point maximum from Adam Ellis and fine support from Ellis Perks with four race victories and Georgie Wood gave the Fen Tigers little hope of success although Jon Armstrong and Connor Coles gave the home crowd some cheer with two heat wins each.
After the meeting Kevin Jolly accepted the hopes of the play offs were now over for this season, he said “Sadly today was a meeting too far and with Danny Halsey crashing out of the meeting we basically ran out of riders who could challenge the Eagles. Eastbourne are difficult enough to beat with a full side and today we came up short, but we will regroup and come back strong next Sunday at Rye House. If we can’t finish fourth then we will finish fifth there is still something to play for and we will keep going to the final meeting.
There will be those I am sure who think we should have used Jordan today, but I am sure the decision taken is the right one for the future, and we will benefit in the long run.”
