A packed Mildenhall Social Club raised the roof when Kevin Jolly announced the return of Mildenhall ‘legend’ Jon Armstrong to the Fen Tigers line-up for the 2017 season. Veteran Armstrong will lead the Fen Tigers and was pleased to be riding again at the club he calls home.
Armstrong said: ‘I love it at Mildenhall, it is where I want to be and also where my family want to be. It is a perfect fit and most of the supporters I now call friends. It is a great club, a family club full of really good people’.
Kevin Jolly never had any doubt that bringing back Armstrong was anything but the smart move, he said: ‘Jon brings so much to Mildenhall speedway both on and off the track, I know it has been said many times, but whatever he scores on the track you can add a couple more points for the impact he has in the pits and the vast knowledge he so freely shares with less experienced riders. He is the consummate team player and an incredible asset to the club!’
Supporters enjoyed a lively evening with the usual sparkling interviews and repartee from compare Kevin Long as a number of awards were handed out. Well on the mend after his season ending crash at Birmingham, Connor Mountain won the Supporters Club Rider of the Season award, whilst another rising star on the comeback trail, Sam Bebee, was the Fen Tiger Cub of the year.
There was talk about the 2017 season and whilst a guarded Kevin Jolly was unable to reveal much at this early stage he did say that the management team had three team permutations already on the table with others being considered and once the NL AGM was over things could move quickly as teams jostle to sign the best available riders. He also spoke positively, as did James Easter, about the clubs relationship with the new owner of Mildenhall stadium and the improvements that are happening at the stadium.
