After much discussion between the Mildenhall Management team and Cubs sponsor Brian Pacey of Stonefield Farm Shop, the Fen Tiger Cubs will not take part in the Midland Development League this coming season.
The club will not however be stepping away from Junior racing, in fact the opposite is the case as the Mildenhall ‘KJM/Manchetts’ Fen Tigers look to continue to unearth and support the development of young talent following the successful introduction of Jordan Jenkins, Sam Bebee and Taylor Hampshire into National League racing last season. As Kevin Jolly explained the club remains fully committed to developing its own riders, he said “I have spoken at length with Robert (Henry), Phil (Kirk) and James (Easter) and we have thought long and hard about how we help the youngsters around the club develop and realise their potential and we have decided that for this season at least the MDL doesn’t quite fit in with our plans. That said we are still looking to run second halves at every meeting and I would love to hear from any youngsters interested in coming down on a Sunday afternoon and taking advantage of the track time and experience and support we are able to offer to them. Whether they are 500cc lads or younger boys on 250cc/150cc or 125cc all will be made welcome. Hopefully young British talent will see that there is an opportunity here to progress from junior racing into the National League as their careers within the sport develop. We will also be open to facing suitable teams in second half challenges where it will support what we are trying to achieve at Mildenhall.
“I am sure our supporters will understand this move and support the youngsters during the season, potentially the future of the club may be on show, and I am already excited that we have a couple of potential ‘gems’ that will be around the club at different parts of the season.
“Seeing the likes of Jordan and Sam develop with us last year was a real highlight for me and we are pleased that our team sponsors support the ethos of the club in looking to bring through the riders of the future. I am extremely grateful to Brian Pacey for agreeing to sponsor the junior racing at the club again this year, Brian is passionate about youth speedway and the development of young riders and is the perfect partner for us”.
