With the weather always threatening to curtail this fixture early the ‘KJM/Manchetts’ Fen Tigers recorded their second away league of the season with an excellent team display.

Connor Mountain and Luke Ruddick combined for a fine 5-1 in heat one to set the tone for the afternoon. After a shared heat two, the Fen Tigers rattled in two more 5-1’s to quickly establish a twelve point lead with Ruddick flying to a pillar to post victory in heat three before Danny Halsey combined with the impressive Danno Verge in heat four. The Fen Tigers consolidated their position over the next three heats before Halsey and Verge linked up for a second time in heat eight to extend the advantage to fourteen before Halsey claimed his third win of the afternoon in heat nine with another confident ride.

Heat ten saw a nasty collision with Ruddick and Jon Armstrong when on a 5-1, which saw Ruddick withdrawn from the meeting with a suspected broken wrist (thankfully the news after a visit to the hospital was much better with Ruddick suffering burns to his arm but no break). Armstrong also suffered a broken rib but was able to continue for the now depleted visitors, recording a second place in the re-run before winning heat twelve and securing victory for the visitors. The Fen Tigers were able to see out the remainder of the meeting safely to record a fine 50-40 victory and bring home four valuable league points to Suffolk.

Acting Team Manager Phil Kirk was pleased with the victory and relieved by the news concerning Ruddick,he said “It was a fine team effort today with all the lads scoring good points. The initial prognosis on Luke put a real dampener on the afternoon but thankfully the news received later this evening was much more positive.  Luke has become an important part of our team and his first two rides today were highly impressive showing the vast strides he has already made this season.

If we are to achieve our ambitions of making the playoffs we must win at places like Buxton and the strong spirit amongst the team saw us home today when we went down to five fit riders. Our two reserves Danno and Lewis really knuckled down and scored some invaluable points especially in the later part of the meeting and supported our top three well. With our heat leaders all winning races we are a potent threat where ever we race and we head off to Stoke next Saturday in good shape’
